J unior Angus members traveled to Reno, Nev., to compete in the 2015 Western Regional Junior Angus Show April 18. Randy Daniel, Colbert, Ga., evaluated the 71 owned females, 23 bred-and-owned (B&O;) females, nine B&O; bulls, seven steers and fve cow- calf pairs before selecting champions. In the B&O; show, Colby Perry, Prather, Calif., showed the grand champion female that also claimed junior champion. DC Pride 302 is a February 2013 daughter of Dameron First Impression. Silveira's Erica Diana 4341 captured reserve grand champion B&O; female. R. David Schultz III, Riverdale, Calif., showed the February 2014 daughter of Dameron First Impression that frst won early junior calf champion. Austin Nowatzke, Michigan City, Ind., led the grand champion owned female, EXAR Envious Blackbird 7813. The September 2013 daughter of Dameron First Impression frst won senior calf champion. EXAR Princess 4944 won reserve grand champion owned female for Katlyn Tunstill, Fayetteville, Ark. She is a January 2014 daughter of Dameron First Impression and frst won early spring calf champion. Andrew Hodges, Montague, Texas, showed the grand champion cow-calf pair. DAJS Beulah 110 is an August 2011 daughter of DAJS All Star M243. A November 2014 heifer calf sired by DAJS Shockwave 612 is at side. Cory Predoehl, Omak, Wash., led the reserve grand champion cow-calf pair. McCoy Proven Queen 248-0151 is an August 2012 daughter of SAV Brilliance 8077. An October 2014 bull calf sired by Connealy Packer 547 is at side. StreamSide Swagger 46A received grand champion B&O; bull for Trista Bates, Manhattan, Mont. He is a March 2013 son of SSCO Dateline TwentyTen X003. Dawson Dal Porto, Brentwood, Calif., showed the reserve grand champion B&O; bull. DPL Cypress R57 is an April 2014 son of DPL Dash N08. StreamSide Slim Shady B14 received grand champion steer honors for Bates. He is a March 2014 son of SSCO Dateline TwentyTen X003. Andrew Nunez, Healdsburg, Calif., showed the reserve grand champion steer. WCC Tank 404 is a February 2014 son of Platinum Structure 702. The California Junior Angus Association won the best state group of fve. Trista Bates was named Premier Breeder, Premier Junior Breeder and Premier Exhibitor. In showmanship, top honors were won by Kyrstyn Abell, Bend, Ore., and Zane Nichols and MacKee Nichols, both of Parma, Idaho, in the peewee division; Kathryn Coleman, Modesto, Calif., junior champion; Grant Hartill, Arbuckle, Calif., junior reserve champion; Hayley DeHaan, McMinnville, Ore., intermediate champion; Brittany Hefner, Springville, Calif., intermediate reserve champion; Katlyn Tunstill, Fayetteville, Ark., senior champion; and Allison Manchester, Clay Center, Kan., senior reserve champion. Scholarship winners recognized were Ashley Cox, Eagle Point, Ore., Western States Auxiliary Scholarship recipient; Lauren Casdorph, Twin Falls, Idaho, Western States Angus Auxiliary Grand Sierra Scholarship recipient; Cassandra Garcia, Renton, Wash., perpetuating Memorial Scholarship and Western States Auxiliary Scholarship recipient. Angus royalty are Hayley DeHaan, 2015 Western States queen; and Gracie Johnson, Stanwood, Wash., Washington Angus Association queen. Ashley Cox and Madison Cox, both of Eagle Point, Ore., were presented their Bronze and Silver awards at the show (see picture in "Next Generation" beginning on page 34).
