T he American Angus Association welcomes fi ve outstanding summer interns to its headquarters in Saint Joseph, Mo. Assigned to a wide variety of positions within the Association and subsidiaries Angus Genetics Inc. (AGI) and Angus Media, the interns will have a chance to gain new experiences and insight. With opportunities like traveling the nation, communicating with Angus producers, preparing a magazine and discovering Angus on a genetic level, these interns will not likely tell the tale of a dull summer. This year's summer interns are Sarah Harris, Raney Lovorn, Nicole Lane, Andrea Foore and Brady Jensen. Sarah Harris, communications Three of the interns have joined the ranks of communications and marketing professionals at Angus Media. Sarah Harris, Kansas State University (K-State), is serving as the communications intern. Nicole Lane, also of K-State, and Raney Lovorn, Oklahoma State University (OSU), will be focused on editorial production of Angus Media's fl agship publications. Harris will gain experience in all aspects of the Association's multimedia approach to promoting the Angus breed. Some of her responsibilities include writing, design, editing, photography and assisting with video production. At the National Junior Angus Show (NJAS) in Tulsa, Okla., July 13-18, Harris will work with Angus Media to promote and cover news and results from various competitions and events while getting to know many of the National Junior Angus Association (NJAA) members and families in attendance. "Experience is the greatest tool in learning, and I am thrilled to have such an opportunity through the American Angus Association," Harris says. "This is a great chance to learn from some of the best in the business and gain new skills that I can use throughout my entire career." Originally from Charlotte, Mich., Harris was raised on her family's farrow-to-fi nish swine farm and participated in both 4-H and the National FFA Organization. She graduated in May 2010 from Michigan State University, receiving a certifi cation in swine management. After earning her degree, she moved to Kansas, where she is currently a senior at K-State studying agricultural communications and journalism, with minors in horticulture and animal sciences and industry. On campus, Harris is a member of Collegiate Cattlewomen and the K-State Agricultural Education club, through which she works with local elementary school students to teach them about many facets of agriculture. Through working on her family's farm and participating in other activities, Harris says she learned the value of hard work and developed a passion for the agricultural industry and its people. Upon graduation, Harris plans to work in the agricultural fi eld promoting the industry through design, photography and writing. Nicole Lane, editorial Lane previously appeared in the pages of the Angus Journal writing for the Certifi ed Angus Beef® (CAB®) brand as industry information intern and as a freelance journalist. This summer she returns to the world of Angus as editorial intern for the Angus Journal. "I'm so excited to get to be writing about and producing content for black Angus producers again," Lane says. "It's an honor to get to work for such great cattlemen and one of the best publications in the business." During her internship Lane will provide content for the Angus Journal, the Angus Beef Bulletin and the Angus Beef Bulletin EXTRA. Working to cover Angus events, her summer will be spent editing, writing, taking photographs and conducting other tasks for the various publications. Originally from John Day, Ore., Lane grew up on a small sheep farm she started with her younger sister. Heavily involved in both 4-H and the National FFA Organization, Lane found a passion for everything agriculture. A love for communicating about it led her to K-State, where she will graduate in December with a degree in agricultural communications and journalism with a minor in animal sciences.
